'The Office' lands coveted post-Super Bowl timeslot

As predicted, it looks like The Office will get the prime real estate following the Super Bowl on Feb. 1. The comedy's executive producers told EW.com exclusively that they expect to produce the hour-long episode for the timeslot now that the Office spinoff is off the table (An NBC spokeswoman said nothing's official). Last spring, NBC brass had announced it planned to use the post-game timeslot to launch Greg Daniels' latest exploits from the Dunder-Mifflin clan — but since then, the Office exec producer has decided to create an entirely different workplace comedy starring Amy Poehler.

As usual, getting the producers to share details about upcoming plot points is like trying to get blood from a stone, but executive producer Paul Lieberstein did have this to say about doing hour-long episodes in general: "It lets us get deeper into some of the other characters that only have very small stories generally. So I always enjoy 'em. I think people like to see what's going on with some of the characters who only get grunts or reactions when Michael says something stupid."

The comedy will also kick off its new season with an hour-long premiere in September.
